Australian Shopping Carts
We build Australian ecommerce businesses websites
Day
Dream Websites can build you a website, and an e-commerce
online shop for a reasonable price. See
our prices, get
a quote or learn more about shopping
carts. We have FREE shop
features available that comes with our hosting, such as free installation of a shopping
cart program.
One of the great advantages
of the world wide web and e- commerce is the fact that you can have
a website based in eg Sydney Australia, but sell world wide.
Before the internet, if an Australian company or business
wanted to sell to people in eg Sweden, the company would
need a presence there. They may need to set up an office
there or have a staff member travel from Australia to
Sweden on a regular basis. However, since the dawn of
the internet and e- commerce, possibilities have opened
up which were never available in the past. Your products
can be sold world wide and you don’t have to even
get out of your chair. Infact, your customers
can be buying your products while you're sleeping.
Day Dream Websites
provides:
ecommerce web hosting, ecommerce management,
and ecommerce web design for a number of small businesses. For pricing request
a quote or see the Prices and Packages page. An e-commerce website is not just about a shopping cart. Selling online involves
making it easy for customers to make purchaes. Security is important in making your customers feel comfortable
about making purchases at your site.
Here are some shopping carts we have built for small
businesses
 |
Sheriton Shoes is a successful shoe business with 9 stores around Sydney. As their business has grown over the past years, Sheriton Shoes decided to expand to online and asked Day Dream Websites to help them with their new business direction. This website is a perfect complement to their 9 stores as visitors to the website can see the products online and see maps and get directions to their nearest store.
Another very important function of this website is the online shop. While Day Dream Website were building the website, we constantly kept in mind the website visitors experience. We frequently asked ourselves – what would be the customer’s experience of this website. Our main aim was to help the customer find the shoe they wanted and to make it easy for them to purchase it either online or at one of the stores.
As a result of the global nature of the internet, Sheriton Shoes are no longer just selling shoes to their loyal customers in Sydney. The website that Day Dream Websites has build for Sheriton Shoes has opened up their market to all of Australia and all of the world. |

Handbag
Queen is a new Australian ecommerce site that
sell handbags online. We did not just build
this website, we also worked with the shop owner
to ensure high sales. The main way we did this
was through SEO.
As a direct result of the SEO work carried out
by Day Dream Websites, the site performs very
well in Google search results.
These high positions
in Google search results caused an increase
in visitors / potential customers to the website.
See
results. |
| The
website has a number of great features. It has
a gift
voucher system where a visitor can purchase
a gift voucher for their friend or colleague
who can then visit the site and redeem the value
of the voucher. It also has a tell
a friend feature that makes it easy for
website visitors to tell their friends about
the site. This is a great way to increase visitors
to the website.
The ecommerce
side of the website allows visitors to browse
the handbags by brand,
colour,
style,
size,
season
and material.
The aim of this is to make is as easy as possible
for the visitor to find what they are looking
for and then purchase it. There is also a specials
page which is always a popular page. Customers
can buy products using a number of different
payment methods such as credit card, bank transfer,
and money order/ cheque. Payment is very secure
and customers are not forced to use one method
of payment. Some people don't like using credit
cards so these people have the option of paying
via bank transfer.
This website
also has a great postage calculating system
whereby the website talks to the Australian
Post website to calculate the postage. The postage
is based on the weight of the total order and
also the destination postcode. The website customer
has the opportunity to choose either express
or regular and if the customer is outside Australia
they can choose either sea
mail or air mail. This postage system saves
lots of time and hassle for the shop owner.

Shopping Cart Example
Angelic Memories
This is a scrapbooking
website that incorporates an online shopping
cart. The shop owner Pricilla already had her
own business since 2003, and in 2007 decided
to branch out to websites and online business.
This project
ran very smoothly as the shop owner was easy
to work with and all the relevant text and images
was provided promptly. Angelic Memories also
has a physical shop in Melbourne Australia.
To make it easy for people to find the physical
shop, Day Dream Websites build an online
map and a directions
feature. The website visitor simply types
in what suburb they are coming from, press enter
or go, and direction and a map are provided.
Try
it out. |

Shopping Cart Example
This website is the
most recent of all the online shops that Day
Dream Websites has built. As a result of this,
this online shop is using all the most recent
technologies. An example is that a customer
to Lucky Lady can purchase without logging in.
This is important as it makes it easier for
the customer to make a purchase. Another example
of nice technology that this shop uses is the
ability to set the meta tags for each page within
the shop. This is very important for search
engine optimisation.

did not build or design this website. We simply

Methods of payment
When building a site
for ecommerce, credit card transactions are convenient
and efficient. However, a high number of people do
not like using credit cards over the internet, especially
if your company is not well known or well established.
Day Dream Websites suggests that you provide your
potential customers with number of other options on
top of credit card transactions. These options should
appear to the user when he/she clicks ‘checkout’.
A number of options are described below.
Direct deposit into
your account
This is the cheapest
form of payment. Basically you set up a standard bank
account and store very little money in it. You can then
give the details of your bank account to your client,
and they then deposit the money into your account.
Order by phone
You provide your business phone
number, or a toll free number for you customers to phone
you. Order
Forms
An order form can be
made in the form of a PDF which can then be downloaded
and printed by the customer. The customer can then post
you the form with a money order or cheque or they can
fax it to you with their credit card details.

Pay it @ Post
Pay it @ Post is a
payment system that has been built with the objective
of giving your customers options when it comes to making
payments at your shop. It is meant to offer an alternative
to credit cards as not everyone is comfortable using
credit cards on the internet. The draw back is that
instead of your customer completing the transaction
there and then, he she needs to make a print out and
if they don't have a printer they have to right down
the details of the purchase. The customer has to then
go to a post office in person and make the payment.
The chances of a customer being bothered to do all that
are slim. But it's still worth offering as another option.
However, it would not be a good idea to have this payment
method as your only option as you would loose a lot
of customers.
Manual credit card
processing
This is not recommended
as your server has to store the credit
card details. It is better to get another company to
handle the credit card details such as
PayPal, PayMate, World
Pay, or e-way.
When the buyer purchases
a product online. You receive an email telling you that
the customer has purchases a product, what the product
is, and the buyer credit card details. You then can
either process the details using your own eftpos machine
or take the details to a bank. Phone banking may also
be possible, but this has to be arranged with your bank.
You also need a secure server, an SSL certificate and
a dedicated IP address. Have a look at our e-commerce
package

Pay Pal
PayPal is a company
that specialises in online transactions. They were started
by eBay and now has grown beyond eBay and has become
very popular. The buyer selects what he/she wants to
buy, and after they press checkout, they are taken to
a customised PayPal page where they enter in their credit
card details. Once the payment is successfully processed,
the funds are deposited directly into your PayPal account
and can be withdrawn or transferred to your bank account
easily. You will receive an email once the transaction
has been processed.
There are fees involved though:
There are advantages
and disadvantages to using PayPal. PayPal is not as
professional as having your own personalised payment
gateway linked to a merchant account. However, a payment
gateway linked to a merchant account is very expensive
and is only worth while doing if you are doing at least
$60,000 per year in online sales. The main reason why
I recommend PayPal for small businesses is because:
* It’s cheap. This makes it easier to make a profit
in your first year of online trading.
* The responsibility of keeping credit card details
secure is taken off you hands. This is because you do
not have to store credit card details on your own server
which is a security risk.
* Once you have a pay pal account you can also accept
credit card details when people come to your physical
shop in person and want to buy something using their
credit card details.
* You are protected against fraudulent purchases and
PayPal go to great lengths to protect you against this.
* Also, PayPal is more well known than most small businesses
so buyers are more likely to trust PayPal rather than
a small business.
* You do not have to purchase a SSL certificate or a
private IP address which would usually cost about $150-
$450 per year.
* Pay pal is compatible wit the program OS Commerce.
Click
here to visit PayPal's website.
Day Dream Websites is
able to set up a PayPal account and integrate it into
your shopping cart.
Automated/ real time
deposit
Automated/real time
deposit is when the a third party charges the buyer's
credit card, and deposits the money into a the seller's
back account. If you do not want to use a payment gateway
with a merchant bank account, another option is using
another companies website to handle the transaction.
PayMate
One company that provides the service of handling your
online transactions is PayMate (http://www.paymate.com.au).
Paymate offers a similar service to PayPal but is Australian.
The user does have to leave our site though and is not
automatically returned after the transaction is finished.
The Order Number that is created is a unique number
derived from the time of the purchase, it doesn't have
anything to do with the order id number as this is not
created until the order is placed.
How to keep
your customers within your own website
Using a payment gateway with a merchant bank account
is the most professional as the buyer does not have
to leave your site to make the purchase. It is also
the most expensive form of ecommerce web hosting and
is only cost effective if your business is doing over
$60 000 per annum in online sales- otherwise it is more
cost efficient to look at other methods of online transactions
such as the ones listed above.
Day Dream Websites can
set up an account for you with e-way who provides the
payment gateway. Check the e-way website for current
costs. You also have to set up
an Internet Merchant Facility with one of the following
banks St George, Bank SA, or CBA. There are extra cost
involved with setting up an Internet Merchant Facility-
contact bank for details.
There are a number of
other companies that can provide online payment services eg World Pay.
