Advertising your website with
Google
A very cheap and effective way of
advertising your site is through Google Adwords.
These are the ‘sponsored links’ that
you see at the top and right hand side of a google
search results page.

You set a daily budget and you only get charged
for how many times your ad gets clicked on. This
means it can get displayed all day with no clicks
and you get charged nothing. What you do get in
this situation is free branding. Your company
name is out there on the web being put in front
of the your target market and you are not getting
charged. Imagine trying to get such a deal out
of a bill board sales person or a newspaper advertisement
sales person. You get specific information on
the results of your advertising such as how many
times your ad was viewed, how many times your
ad was clicked on and more.
Another useful feature of using adwords is that
you get free access to an online program called
Google
Analytics. This program can tell
you how long the visitor stayed on your site for
and how many pages they viewed. You can find out
if your visitor decided to go to the contact us
page after clicking on your google ad. You can
also work out where in the world your enquiries
are coming from. You can find out what keywords
your site is being found for, what keywords yield
the most sales or page views. You can also find
out a lot of information about your visitors such
as what type of browser your views are using and
what screen size they have, what version of flash
do they use, what operating system they have etc.
These are just some of the features that google
adwords and google analytics has to offer.
Adwords is like an auction for words, in that
people are bidding for words. For example, lets
say I sell fishing reels through my online shop.
I am willing to pay 50c if someone clicks on my
ad when searching for ‘Cheap Fishing Reels’.
However, my competitor is will to pay 65c. My
competitors ad will get displayed higher on the
page than mine which means that there is more
chance that someone will click on his ad. If lots
of other competitors are also willing to pay more
than my bid for click on an ad, then my ad will
get pushed further down the page and possibly
off page 1. If your ad is not on page one then
it may as well not be there at all because the
chances of someone clicking on it a slim. Therefore
it is important to get a good spot in the search
results.
Google Adwords Management Package
DDW can set up your advertising account for
$50 and we can manage your adwords campaign for
free per month depending on the number of keywords
you have. This means that we will check it regularly
to make sure you are getting value for money.
This involves:
Finding/mining keywords
Creating text ads
Establishing cpc
Managing - monitoring campaign on daily basis
Making sure you are getting a good click through
rate
Evaluating performing/non-performing keywords
Adding more keywords
Deleting non-performing keywords etc
We also provide you with a detailed report once
a month so that you can track the success of your
results.
If someone (person A) has fist fulls of cash
then he/she can easily set up a campaign and throw
money at it like there’s no tomorrow. He/she
will likely get 1st place in the adwords search
results and they will get lots of clicks/ potential
customers to their site. But keep in mind that
someone else (person B) who is using an intelligent
and strategic approach to google adwords is probably
getting similar results at a fraction of the money
that person A is spending.
This picture shows the difference in results
between DDW managing adwords and a client managing
google adwords.
Notice the difference in CTR (click through rate),
and Avg CPC (average cost per click).
