regards to the Internet.

- COOKIES: Internet explorer and Netscape send
information to each site that one visits so that
the site has information about that person/personal
details.

- Building up of profile of people.
• Some anecdotal stories about
company email and hacking.
- Server and Route every access to every file.
- E-mail is not private.
- Some companies filter outgoing mail for suspicious
words.
- Big brother spies on people.
• The development of PGP- pretty
good privacy

- corporate sphere – big need for privacy.
- A new type of criminal ie spies for companies
- There are American sites where unless you are
an American citizen you are breaking the law to
enter.
• Copyright issues
- This issue is important WHY? Because the WWW
is an invitation for people to copy.
- It is possible with digital technology, to copy
exact information on to your computer.
- Copyright is on the edge in the nineties
- The law can not cope with the issues resulting
from WWW and the Internet.
- APRA forces the issue in 1996
- a service provider is liable for prosecution
for breaking the copyright law.
- The needs of publishers VS the needs of consumers.
• Pornography Problem
- does the Internet need to be censored?
- There are filter programs such as: cyber watch
and patrol net nanny and they all censor pornography.
- Censorship: totalitarianism/ government control
are the antithesis of freedom and democracy.
- Clinton has made it criminally offensive to
transmit porn.
- Communication Decency Act- illegal to look at
porn on the internet but not in books etc. Overturned
a week later.
- As a result of the CDA in the US, Australia
has similar occurrence through service providers.

- Some mid east and Asian countries have totally
banned pictures.
